Crowns
Crowns are used to cover a tooth that is cracked, or is too broken down to be restored with a filling. The larger the hole made by a cavity that has to be treated, the more likely a crown will be needed. They strengthen and protect the tooth against further breakage.  Crowns are most commonly placed over broken teeth or root canal treated teeth.  Crowns can be made to match the natural color of your teeth, giving you a better smile.

Implants
A dental implant is an option to permanently replace a missing tooth, or a row of missing teeth. In this procedure, a surgical cylinder is placed into the bone and allowed to heal. The bone grows around it forming a tight connection.  Once the implant is healed, then a white crown is placed on top of it.

Root Canal Therapy
Sometimes an abcess or trauma to a tooth may cause the nerve to be damaged to the point it needs root canal therapy. It must be treated, and cannot heal on its own. The only other treatment would be to extract the tooth. Symptoms may include sensitivity to hot or cold, throbbing, swelling, pain when biting, or a bad taste in the mouth. However, the patient may not be aware of the problem until a dental exam is performed.

Bridges
This is an option to create a "false" tooth to replace a missing tooth. The false tooth is a crown created to look like a natural tooth. The purpose of a bridge is both functional and cosmetic.  If not treated, the teeth surrounding the missing tooth begin to shift. When this occurs, it can lead to other dental issues, such as bite problems.

TMJ Treatments
TMJ stands for temporal-mandibular joint.  Problems in this joint may be caused by a misalignment of the teeth, trauma, or excessive muscle tension.

Problems in this area can cause:

  • Headaches
  • Pain when opening and closing the mouth
  • Clicking or popping of the jaw
  • Pain in the jaw muscles
  • Facial pain

Dentures
Dentures or partial dentures, replace teeth that have been lost. When bone loss around the roots of teeth is great enough to loosen them or let them fall out,  dentures may be an option. No one enjoys losing their natural teeth, but you can still eat and talk regularly. Dentures commonly replace multiple missing teeth, and are removable.

Dental treatments vary, and can include replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling gaps between teeth, and other forms of therapy. There is no one solution that is right for all cases.
